Island service companies

Island Service Company has done a good job for us through the years, but as the population of islanders continues to grow they seem pressed to keep up with the demand at times. Are there other providers such as property managers who specialize in servicing island needs? Are there carpenters, plumbers, electricians, cleaners, landscapers, waterfront maintenance, etc. who are well prepared to address island needs effectively?

Most of what I have seen recently for delivery to the local landings of building materials is private individuals.

which island?

I can't figure out why posters ask these questions and don't say where they are. Various contractors focus on geographic areas, so my guy in Gilford may not be much use in Wolfeboro or Tuftonborough.

You will get much better help if you post where you really are and what you specifically need. If you have somebody already, don't let go. S/he may have contacts for other services. Beyond that, your neighbors are a better source than this forum, as you may be able to pool service requests, e.g. septic pumping.

ISC was the give away.
We have lists of contractors, just everyone that is decent is really busy.

All of the regular island contractors are very busy and also finding it hard to get and retain good help. Many are taking on work for only existing customers. And probably only for customers that were not difficult and that paid the bills on time.

The problem of obtaining help or services in 2021 isn't just limited to Island Properties; it is in the entire Lakes Region area.

If you want a carpenter, and he/she tells you they will start tomorrow then you have to seriously question why they are able to start immediately. There are far more jobs for these trades people that they are currently able to handle and they should be very busy these days.

A lot of it is also scheduling material lead times.

DIYers on smaller remodeling and replacement projects will generally set up an appointment with a salesperson. That gives them more time to work through what products will meet their lead time expectations and fit their budget.

A lot of the accounts of record work with outside salespeople, so sometimes the vendors can be switched to accommodate their customers' requests, other times they can't. The contractor just needs to adjust their schedule to the material lead times, and that has been hit or miss lately.

One of my sales reps recently had a hack come in to strip paneling and patch/paint walls. The guy was able to start immediately. It wasn't until late in the project when the poor workmanship was showing that he looked at the business card again.

"Quailty work"
"Damge repair estimates"

Their spelling mirrored their workmanship.
