Best/Coolest Burger Joint

Bug Bug and I are heading to camp together Friday, and she wants to try a new/cool burger joint on the way.

I've seen the Best of NH list, and we know about Ellacoya and Surfside, but I'm wondering what y'all's thoughts are (thinking from ~Nashua to Moultonborough, but preferably closer to Moultonborough).

Country Cook'n at the Lakeside

The Lakeside has an excellent burger on their menu called The Cowboy Burger. 8 oz broiled burger with cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce and a sprinkling of fried onions on a brioche bun. We stopped there one night when there was a 90 minute wait at the Ellacoya, and we were pleasantly surprised. I've had it several times since. The Lakeside is across from the Gilford Wal-Mart plaza.

My house! Bar None

I don’t eat out much these days but when I lived at the camp back in the summers during my college days I have many fond (but perhaps a bit blurry) memories of The Mug. Back then the burgers were great.

Thirsty Moose

I have never been there, but my daughter & son and their friends rave about The Thirsty Moose Taphouse. Huge selection of beers and "amazing" burgers. They are on Elm Street in Manchester, right across from the arena, and they have other locations over in the Seacoast region.

I have had very good burgers at the Barley House in Concord: https://www.thebarleyhouse.com/

Just looked that up—we might have a winner!

I'm not sure what makes a place qualify as "Burger Joint", but I'd put Thirsty Moose on the list. Thinkxingu has one in his hometown, but the Moose isn't in the Lakes Region.

Been to the Barley House many times. Excellent. "O" just down the street is excellent also, but they are both a cut or two above "joint". Across from the Capitol, Barley House will be very busy T, W, Th, when the House is in session, but that's OK because there is no parking in Concord when the House is in session.

We have had some good ones at the GOAT in Portsmouth. Last time at the Manchester one I was not impressed, but it could be an isolated case being it was 4pm and we were probably their first one off the grill of the day. They had just opened.

Hop and Grind in Durham, NH is supposed to be a hot spot. Although 10 minutes away, we have never made it over to try it. The chef is well known and has won many accolades. He was just featured at a food show in Miami recently, put on by Guy Fieri.

Twin Barns brewery in Meredith had the best burger I have had in a long time.
Chedder Apple maple burger. Meat comes from Wine'ing Butcher.

Yeah, the Moose is pretty good, but we're looking for something different.

Some good options here, especially the ones on my route since I'm all about continuous trajectory when heading to camp!

I agree with Rugman. The hamburgers at Twin Barns are outstanding.

Looney Bin = not family friendly, right?

Sounds like Twin Barns might be an option as well—Bug said she loves their tater tots.

Stopped at Barley House just now—right location and very good burger.

Given the pricing ($72 w/tax for two burgers, two sodas, bread pudding, and 20% tip), I'm not sure we'll be back, but it was perfect for tonight.

Thank you kindly for the other suggestions—maybe this will be the Burger Summer!

Always good to get feedback.
I, too, had a (cheese) burger for lunch today. FF and soda. $10.30, no tip. Must have been the bread pudding that spiked the check. LOL

The core price was up there—$18/19 for the burgers, but it was the extra charges that polarized me: $1 for a ketchup cup of BBQ sauce, $2.50 upcharge for sweet potato fries, $3 for a soda, $4 for a root beer. That was pretty uncool.

Prices get set based on what the market will bear.

Barley House

Glad to hear the quality is still good. I haven't been there since pandemic. In those days, the burger included fries, SP fries or a salad, all one price. Ice tea most places I've been gets free refills, where brand soda has a charge for seconds. I guess I've gotta get out more.

Beefside and Red Blazer

Beefside and Red Blazer on Manchester St, Concord NH comes to mind. Especially the Bison burger at Beefside.

Besides the Barley House, you can't go wrong at the Common Man!

As for chains, 5 Guys in Tilton!
