Center Harbor / Squam, must do, must see, must eat?
We’ve been in the lakes region for around 35 years (NewFound) and would quite often visit attractions around mostly the west side of Winni.
The Town Docks Hart’s Turkey Farm Kellerhaus The Camp Restaurant Sunshine and Pa’s Moulton Farm Sunday Breakfast Rattle Snake Hike Mount Washington Dinner Cruise We’ve passed through Center Harbor many times but not done much in Center Harbor. We’ll be on Squam ( sturtevant Bay) 10 minutes from where the Mount Washington winters over. Not even sure if that is the Center of Center Harbor ;) The Canoe Restaurant and Walter’s Basin are on our todo list. Sounds like there are tons of hikes around Squam. Interested in day hikes, restaurants, maybe some boating excursions on Squam and anything else. We only have a Hobie Tandem island boat (feet and wind powered). Might get a motor for it. Not sure how sailing is gonna be on sturtevant bay where it’s a bit protected from wind. It might be perfect because where we were on Newfound it was either no breeze or it was howling a lot of the time. Oh anyone familiar with the “Big Catch” on Newfound? Is there anything like that within 30 minutes of Center Harbor. Kind of like Tamarack used to be years ago. These will also remain on our list of favorites and within 30 min range Homestead Restaurant Rossi’s Italian Italian Farmhouse Common Man Also nothing will stop us from hiking up to Poly’s Pancake Parlor (still about 1hr north). If you’ve never gone, it’s an absolute must. |
Moultonborough Country Store was a fun find. You could easily spend an hour or more browsing all the neat stuff.

Head up a few exits on rt 93 to the Covered Bridge restaurant, exit 27.

One of our favorites is The Bob House restaurant, which is in Moultonborough on Route 25 a few miles east of Center Harbor. I also suggest stopping by the Loon Center in Moultonborough.

Also, if you are a pizza, authentic Italian food lover, don’t miss out on Piccolo Market in Center Harbor (about a half mile east of the CH town docks near the Dunkins) |

And Red Hill Dairy for fried seafood and an ice cream.

You can get Corner House Inn (in Sandwich) dinners delivered to your dock or boat on Squam.

Used to be a go to place for us before it changed hands, not anymore. We will give it another shot but at this point it is tough to drive by the Bob House and head to Sandwich. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
The BBQ joint right in Center Harbor is great!
So is the little bookstore in the Heath's center. |
Gusto's!
We recently went for the first time to a new place right up from the public docks in Center Harbor and were VERY impressed. I've never been to Italy (my wife has) but to us it seemed pretty darn authentic.
We had sandwiches and salad we had never even heard of before and they were delicious. They're only open until 2pm- serving breakfast and lunch, but they also seem to specialize in Italian coffee. It's called Gusto (Gusto's?). We certainly plan to go back for more! |
The New Woodshed
One of our favorite restaurants near center harbor

Walter's Basin at Squam Lake.
