Free "local" TV over Internet

I don't believe I've seen this mentioned, but locast.org is serving up streaming feeds of stations in the so-called Boston viewing area. They are a non-profit organization and operate legally under the copyright laws. As a cord-cutter (in Columbus OH), I've struggled with an attic antenna for some years. I tried locast and it works perfectly. Although it's free, they do ask for a minimum donation of $5 / month (eliminates begging screens) and I find it well-worth it. If you go to locast.org/dma you can put in your zip code to determine your eligibility for Boston stations. It works with Roku, Firestick, among others. I plan on trying it at the lake next week.

So, do you need a "Smart TV" in order to utilize this or will it work on any television set ?

I have been using Locast for a couple years via my iPhone connected to a big screen here in Laconia. Great alternative!

You would need a streaming box such as a Roku which would allow you to download the Locast App in order to watch it. Naturally as it's a streaming service you need an internet line to connect the Roku to the WWW.

We've used Locast for about a year now. It seems to work well and we have no need of Cable at the lake.

If you want NH local news and weather you can stream WMUR in Manchester by way of the NewsOn app in the Roku menu. It usually works fine and allows for the convenience of time shifting ...but there are lots of annoying ads

I enjoy Pluto. It’s also free
