Why the hell did I not buy an enclosed boat sooner! You can't be in any kind of a hurry in this thing, but according to my wife I'm never in a hurry to do ANYTHING, so it all works out![emoji6]

Yup!...totally agree! You can't beat a fully enclosed boat if you're an islander!!

Looking good Steve!

Can we get a photo of what it looks like from the outside looking in, my son would love this boat. In conversation a few days ago he even mentioned once again how much he would love to have that boat that services camp Lawrence.

Thanks for the photos. Looks like you have your work cut out for your self with the sound system up-grades. but if your like myself its probably a labor of love, it never seems to count as work when its up the lake and it your working on your own boat.

One extra question, What powers this motor wise. Thanks ...... :)

Piece of cake...every C-dory should have a 10 inch subwoofer and a 600 watt amplifier! Music is my passion so it's not work to me! 90 HP Yamaha 4 stroke...this boat planes at 9 mph...very happy with it!

How many of these are on the lake? I saw two yesterday, one docked and one out busting through the chop, was interested in how the ride was? Yesterday was pretty snotty, I was averaging about 18-19mph on our ride from Alton up to Meredith. We were going to try to make it back to Alton for the ski show but waited out the storm at Surfside Burger Bar instead.

I have a 22' Cruiser on West Bear; there's the one on Mark, and a 16' cruiser in the Gulf on Bear. May be one more on East Bear.

Dave R 08-24-2020 06:17 AM

If you are considering boats of that style, be sure to check out Parker and Steiger too. There are a few of those in my marina and they seem to be well made though a bit more power hungry than Eastern or C-Dory. If accommodations are a priority, look for a Rosborough RF-246. They are excellent and offer a bit more frills in the cabin. They were made with inboard, outboard and stern drive propulsion.

steve-on-mark 08-24-2020 09:58 AM

My MVYC slip limits me to a 24 foot or smaller boat, so that requirement led me to this boat...I'm happy it did! Sitting at home yesterday, my grandson decided that we should be anchored off Bear like some of the other boaters, so we boated across the channel and dropped anchor. He floated in a tube for a while, the took turns jumping off the swim platform and side of the boat. He loved it ...." I never jumped off a boat before!!" His grandmother stayed on our beach and was able to watch him having fun!! He loves this boat as much as I do!

Finally thought I'd chime in on this thread. I have a 19ft C-Dory Angler I found at the same time we bought our lot on Rattlesnake. It has been a work horse getting people and things out in all sorts of weather. First boat in, last boat out. Not fast but once in the boat you are on island time, what's the hurry.

I am finding the same thing...I'm not really in a hurry to go anywhere. Being out there as long as I have been, I still like to take in the sights...stopping to take pics of things I've seen a thousand times...it doesn't get old to me. This one has a Wallas stove/ heater...will be a game changer for me....I've suffered through some pretty horrific commutes....freezing cold, snowstorms, driving rain, etc. With the sound system I installed, it's like being in a little music studio and even though I don't fly across the lake, I sometimes wish my commute was a little bit longer!

Back in my youth

Back in my youth, the dock posts were pilings. Several of us would climb up on the top of the pilings and then dive in. Clarence, the old gentleman that was the cop assigned to the dock area, would give us heck about driving off the pilings. Then my mom would climb up and do a dive, and Clarence would say "Mrs C, you're not helping here!".

Great swimming back in the day and would get out when someone wanted to use the dock.

Glad to see others enjoying the swimming there.

Dave

Heater in small, lake boat:

Wonder if lobster boats that work in Maine and Canada ocean waters use cabin heaters like the Finland made, Wallas kerosene heater?

With the cold ocean water doesn't their lobster boat get very cold pretty much all rear 'round, plus they probably are out on the job for hours, or some extended time.

Just like headlights or a horn, cars are required to have a heater/defroster in New Hampshire, but not an air conditioner ..... so's the legislature needs to mandate that every boat in NH must have a kerosene heater, too.

Barney Bear 10-20-2020 09:03 AM

How Now?

Hard to install a kerosene heater on a Sailfish or canoe. :coolsm:

Bear Guy 10-20-2020 09:09 AM

This reminds me of a tale: this avaricious fellow acquired a new-to-him kayak, and wanted to try it out on a cold day. He placed a boat heater on the floor, which in short order, melted through the hull and promptly sank the vessel. That goes to show, you can't have your kayak and heat it too.

Heated wet suit vest; do a search for 'heated wet suit vest' which have a re-chargable electric heater and they cost from $100-$200, designed to be worn either alone or under a windbreaker, wet suit or dry suit ..... how's about that ..... a heated wet suit vest.

Maybe they make one that's a combination heater and massage, in a wet suit vest

The Rip Curl H-bomb heated wetsuit vest ...... sounds like powerful heat.

And the cats...don't forget the damn cats![emoji16] I've said it before, but we've worked long and hard to have what we have. Dont take this the wrong way, but most people could only dream of living where we do, or see the things we see, so I guess that's why I share the views. It seems strange when boats go by slowly and the people on board gawk, but I get it. I'm not sure they understand the amount of work that's been going on over the years to get to this point , but it's ok. I take pictures to share the beauty, and maybe have a few laughs in the process!

She has actually...sleeps most of the day like most adult dogs do. She does lose her mind when I come home from work, or when company comes, but usually calms down in 10 or 15 minutes. She doesn't bark, but makes this crazy growling noise...frightening to some, but I think it's just her way of talking!

Still psycho! At least when I am visiting. She's sweet though.

Sounds a lot like Bonnaroo. He’ll settle down in about 5 minutes now. Arthritic knees keep him from being too insane now.

It's gotta be cold out there at night—have you discussed your house heating/insulation situation anywhere on the other threads? I'd be interested to know how you deal with the temps/light/snow this late in the season.

I have not...we live in a log house, so the walls aren't insulated with anything, but the walls are thick and solid wood. I insulated the crap out of the ceiling, but the floors are not insulated. We can basically heat the house during the day just by turning interior lights on, saving the precious propane for the gas fireplace when absolutely needed... too late in the year to get propane deliveries, so what we need I have to lug out myself. Happy about the time change, so now I can actually see how foggy the lake is when i leave in the morning! :-) Evening rides are all gonna be in the dark now, but full moons light the way ( now that most navigation lights are gone ), but I have gps so it's all good. I've been coming out of Mt. View and someone on Bear has been lit up like a Christmas tree on weekends so following those lights ( best navigational aid on the lake, next to the green rope lighting on Mink ) make it easy! I've kept a windshield ice scraper on the boats for years, so that's nothing new...but for me, the game changer this year is the C-Nile... enclosed, heat...I've been trying to get an old friend out to the house for years, but he's petrified of water and boats. He finally caved in and came out yesterday. He had a comfortable ride out at 11am, ( I kept checking for facial sweats :-) ), and when I took him in at 6pm, it was cold and raining, but we stayed warm and dry...he wasn't uncomfortable in the least and actually enjoyed the ride!
We are still aiming to have Thanksgiving out there...I'll let you know how THAT goes! Until then, it's just business as usual!

Once I got a handle on how to run the damn thing! This morning was in the low 30s...went down 10 minutes before I needed to leave and fired it up...grandson and I had a beautiful warm and scenic ride in...wish I could have stayed out on the lake longer!

Another month has come and gone! November was actually pretty mild by NH standards and Thanksgiving went off without a hitch. Never did get a propane delivery ( that's another story ) , but I did lug out another 100 pounder just to be on the safe side. Lights and electric heaters have been doing the job, although this month's electric bill was staggering![emoji6] Will wrap up this Sunday...been taking stuff off island every time I head south. That is all!
