Summer vacation rentals
 

I am ( usually ) a frequent visitor to the lakes region and I rent a house for a week every summer and needless to say we look forward to it very much. I have a place reserved mid July and recently heard from the rental agency. It seems that they are going ahead with things though they will be taking some extra precautions such as a later check- in time in order to do more thorough cleaning, etc. But there is no way to know how things will be then.....it's not really that far away. I know out of state visitors are not really welcome right now and I totally understand that. But how will things be a couple of months from now? I am in the "high risk" category and can't imagine feeling safe sitting on a beach, going out to dinner, shopping in stores and other activities that we'd normally do. What are other"s thoughts and experiences regarding this? Are you still renting your properties this summer? if you vacation in the lakes region are you still going?

I think it is a relative few people who do not want out of state people to visit. After all, the economic picture and the tax structure in New Hampshire would be entirely different without the out of state money that pours in every year.

I have only had one cancellation and that was a Bike Week renter. The new date for Bike Week was already filled so I couldn't move them.

I would say that you are welcome to visit, just practice the appropriate social distancing and take whatever precautions are recommended at the time of your visit. As we know, that is changing on a daily basis.

Of course you are welcome to come up here. However, if you are not going to be comfortable sitting in an open area of the beach, I think you have answered your own question.

Laconia was once a mill town.

This provided employment to many.

The mills left, tourism has tried to fill the gap.

What's needed is a blend of both: bring back industry!

in a credit card statement I have 3 Airbnb refunds credited for June alone. people are uncomfortable with the uncertainty of safety out there.

When it comes to waterfront rentals I am wondering if we may actually see more rental activity not less. A place on the lake gives you privacy and social distancing that you would not get sitting on an ocean beach packed in with everyone else.

Consider these before renting a place.
Lake region is beautiful, relaxing, entertaining and all of the above.

Do you want to stay at a place where you do not know the previous occupants health situation?

Are you OK with staying at the rental place and doing take out. I would not go to a restaurant until later on this year (maybe) even if they are open.

Do you have your own water craft to enjoy, most of the marinas are now closed for customers so you may not be able to rent one.

You can walk around the lake and go hiking, that is a plus.

Except for the tourism...

I moved to Keene (1988) some fifteen years after graduation from KSC.

When I got there, everybody was selling real estate- and making A LOT of money!
Bankers, investment people, boutiques- all white-collar and schmoozy!

I was very disappointed- I moved from yuppie-ville to N.H.- I thought :(

Within a few years, downtown stores were closing- window-fronts covered.

Keene had traded in it's dynamic industry, and working force, for the flashy, new buck!

Hard to go back, I guess. :confused:
