all the stuff

I think the kids want all the stuff. At least, they never show up when I remind them that "next Saturday is dump day".

tell your friend that in this situation it's perfectly acceptable....I went to Catholic school for 7 years and know the rules.

Had to spend my Saturday working in Dover, and from what I hear missed the blustery excitement that was the lake yesterday. By 6:30 it had pretty much calmed down.

We hiked yesterday afternoon, Gunstock-Belknap-Piper loop, and there were really gusty winds at the tops. With the unusually cold temps it felt more like fall. Looking down on the lake it didn't look like there was anywhere near the normal weekend boat traffic.

fatlazyless 06-19-2022 11:37 AM

Hey, here's a local weather factoid ....... today, Sunday, June 19 at 12:30-pm ..... the weather on top of Mt Washington is both the coldest at 26.6-degrees and the windiest at 36.8-mph in the entire U.S.A. .... with freezing fog .... wind chill 9-degrees F .... according to the info under warnings in the Winnipesaukee.com weather page and also from weather.gov, the National Weather Service.

So, if you thought today was a cold and windy day out on Lake Winnipesaukee ....... ...... you want to quick trailer your boat up top Mt Washington to see what real cold & wind is all about! .... is like winter up there, today, on June 19th!

www.mountwashington.org/weathercams/default.aspx

The straight line, air miles distance from Mt Washington to Lake Winnipesaukee is about 40 to 55 miles depending where on the lake plus an elevation difference of 5784' (1.1 mile) with Lake Winnipesaukee water level-504', and Mt Washington summit-6288'.

And, this photo tweet ... http://www.twitter.com/NWSGray/statu...45211826671616 ...... made on June 19, 4:54-am from the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine on the 1.3" of snow that fell on the summit of Mt Washington which is very unusual.

Hey there, you want to closely read this NH Fish & Game rescue report which talks a lot about the cold and windy weather up top these here ..... them there ..... frosted mountains ..... which can be seen from Lincoln Park, Gilford from about 50-miles distance away ..... on the Lake Winnipesaukee shoreline .....https://nhfishgame.com/2022/06/20/hy...l-near-mt-clay .... that froze to death a 53-year old hiker from Andover, Massachusetts who was hiking the Gulfside Trail along Mt Washington which is also that famous white blazed, Appalachian Trail, that goes from Georgia to Maine.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eb805F2k6Yc ..... NH Fish and Game, rescue carry-out, Mt Clay-Gulfside Trail, around 11-pm, Saturday, June 18, 2022

https://nhfishgame.com/2022/06/20/up...-mt-clay-dies/ .... it had to be cold and windy, rain, snow, ice and fog, up there on the rocky Gulfside Trail on Mt Clay on Saturday, June 18. He sent a text to his wife and the NH Fish & Game went to his rescue, driving up the 7.6-mile long, Mt Washington Auto Rd in a state snowplow truck with tire chains and then walking to his location, over there somewhere on the icy Gulfside Trail on Mt Clay, aka Mt Ronald Reagan, just north of Mt Washington.

...............

Moral for this very SAD New Hampshire hiking, hypothermia death: https://hikesafe.com, $25-individual, $35-family, good only in New Hampshire!

If you want to get rescued off a New Hampshire hiking trail without getting hit .... .... with a big fat cost-of-rescue bill, then you better have a $25/35 HikeSafe card. Don't hit that NH-trail without one.

That looks like the one that the guy just had his maiden voyage in after mostly finishing the restoration. He said he does boat restoration but this is his own. I think the name begins with an in something?

I thought the same thing at first, but that one had no upper helm...no windshield.

Tis. I think the one you are referring to was on the Everything Lake Winnipesaukee Facebook page. This is from the post:" Many folks have asked what work we have done to Insieme at Granite Creek Woodworks thus far. I've compiled this list!" And here is a picture.

Descant 07-28-2022 01:25 PM

"Insieme" ?

I think you're thinking of the other old boat "Insieme" (Did I spell it right?) 1935 Richardson Cruisabout.
Pix here: https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=steven%20dami

Also some pix or the restoration at:

I wish I could take the credit - friends of our saw it out on the lake Saturday after the Weirs car show and sent the link.

It says home port is Fay’s - as is ours - but I have not seen it in there

winniwannabe 07-28-2022 04:01 PM

That's the kind of boat that will forever be admired! She's beautiful, and thank you for the video about her. Many years of luck with her!

steve-on-mark 08-10-2022 07:40 AM

Views from the Tiki Hut Boat?? As I am slowly approaching retirement (65 in a few days), I came to the conclusion last year that I really don't enjoy leaving the lake every day to commute to my job in Dover. I deal with impatient, sometimes nasty service customers all day ( especially worse since COVID ), and since I'm really not ready to slow down completely, I needed to find an enjoyable job up here. The first thing that came to mind was piloting Tiki Hut boats. Unlike most of my service customers, everyone on those boats should be happy and really want to be there! I contacted the owner of the company, filled out an application, and got my commercial boating license. I just completed my training runs, and had my first solo run this past Sunday. Less stress than 5 minutes of my regular job...I love it. Hopefully it's something I can do once I'm fully retired ... can't think of anything better than working on the lake that I never want to leave!!

Great, congratulations!! The NH Boat Museum is often hunting for captains too, you might check with them. I had a couple of friends who did it and loved it. I think they are launching a new service in Meredith too so not just in Wolfeboro any more.

MeredithMan 08-10-2022 08:09 AM

Good for you, Steve!

That is awesome, good for you. Every year, for about the last 5 years, my kids and their cousins have done a tiki cruise the 3rd weekend in July and they have an absolute ball. And the one thing they always say, is that the Captain makes a huge difference. If the Captain is engaging, fun, and kinda chatty, it makes the whole experience that much better! Enjoy!

You'll love it. Best job ever was a couple of summers as a Miss Winnipesaukee driver.

I think the 1947 Shane Airflow was purchased out of Seattle early summer.
