Pollen
Is it my imagination, or is this an incredibly heavy pollen year? I was out biking yesterday and saw huge clouds of pollen drifting from the pine trees. I've never actually seen that before.
Same for pine needles. Very heavy drop this year. I've never understood the pine needle and cone cycle. Is it about every 3 years? I've spent hours online looking for efficient ways of picking up pine needles and cones and concluded there is none. I pray that my next house will not be surrounded by pines, much as I love them. |

There's a fair amount of pollen I was noticing over the weekend but today in particular....like, whoa!
 Yellow haze all the way up from Allenstown to Alton this morning. Seems like every 5ish to 7ish years there's a massive pollen release. For the pine needles and cones, a decent leaf blower to get things started and I've even gone as far as using a garden rake to consolidate the pile. I usually grab a snow shovel to scoop it up into the trailer if everything isn't too damp. |
A haze in the hills from my perch. Second day on otc meds

My lawn mower chops up/picks up needles and cones. If the drop is in non grassed areas, I don't care, except we use a leaf blower to clean walks and driveway. I have a lot of low level blueberries where others might have grass; no maintenance at all. I am surrounded by white pines.

I know John Deere has high lift blades that do an exceptional job with pine needles and leaves in the fall.

The air was foggy and at time, it blew like snow!

It is heavy this year, but I can recall others when it was just as bad if not worse. Friends in the Laconia area sent pictures yesterday of plumes coming off the mountains in that area. But where we are I haven't seen the clouds of pollen here as I have in the past.
Hopefully the rain today and Thursday helps knock a lot of it down. |
