Jet

Anyone see what I think was a C-17 flying in the area around 12:20 yesterday? I was working outside and heard it off in the distance. Then getting louder and closer until it flew low and slow over the house. This was near Steel Hill. Impressive.

Flew over Alton Bay, low and slow.
I was waiting patiently on Facebook for the “newer residents of Alton” to start typing away asking “why was that plane flying over MY lake so low”
I’ve lived here all my life and it’s nothing new. Kinda cool actually.

The car dealerships I've worked at over the last 30 years have all been in close proximity to the Pease Tradeport. I've seen many low flying aircraft in that time...fighter jets, the big Russian cargo planes, even Air Force One. Seeing them all is very cool to me, and during air shows, the coolness reaches new levels!

"Cool" Doesn't Do It Justice...

That's good to hear. ;)

I was driving north on I-93 when I saw an immense white cargo plane flying in the distance. That Antunov AN-225 had previously flown a 130-TON generator to Australia!

I thought of mentioning it here at the forum, but thought I could've been mistaken.

The AN-225 few in the US? I never heard that. Supposedly there is a plan to rebuild it, I'm a bit skeptical it will happen. Too bad it was destroyed.

one time it was on the seacoast, I drove to Pease to check it out. It was enormous....wings were so long the wingtips seemed to be almost touching the ground. It was moving a giant printing press for Heidelberg out of Dover. It was the 124...

Actually big Ukrainian cargo planes, though belonging to a Russian operator. One of the things Russia wanted from their invasion was the Ukrainian defense industry. Careful what you wish for...

The smaller Antonovs were much more common than the An-225, there's one at NASA Ames on Moffett Federal Airfield. But there was only one complete An-225 and the Russians destroyed it. There's another hull, which they now intend to complete at a cost of about $500M. I saw the only An-225 fly past my home when I lived in Alameda CA, right off the north end of Oakland airport.

Antunov Heavy-Lift Aircraft in Wolfeboro?

There's a specification that should have caught my eye with respect to the largest Antunov. It has a pair of extra engines, so the An-125 could have been the model I'd seen flying above Manchester.

But it was not the large Antunov I'd seen up-close in Wolfeboro: ;)
