Anyone Missing a GMC Jimmy?

An unoccupied vehicle was pulled from Lake Winnipesaukee Tuesday afternoon. Now police are trying to figure out how it got there and who it belongs to. A blue, two-door GMC Jimmy was found in Lake Winnipesaukee at the end of Peggy's Cove Road in Alton. The vehicle was half submerged in the water several feet from the end of the dock.

Acting Fire Chief Scott Williams said there is no known cause for why the car ended up in the water.

Williams pointed out deep skid marks in the dirt a few feet from the end of the land with tire treads leading toward the water. The vehicle went over a short, rocky embankment and into the water.

The Alton Fire Department had two personnel members in the water wearing cold water suits to see if anyone was in or around the vehicle. They confirmed that the vehicle was unoccupied and there was no one else in or around it in the water.

There were no immediate witnesses to the incident and the vehicle's driver was unknown. Fire crews took the license plate number and gave it to police to investigate further.

Peggy's Cove Road is mostly occupied by seasonal residents with three houses which are occupied year-round.

Resident Tammy Brown said she was returning home from work around 2:20 p.m., looked over the hill "and I saw there was a car in the water."

She went into her house and called 911 and went out to the dock to make sure no one was in the vehicle.

A wrecker from Doug Roberts Auto Service in New Durham pulled the vehicle out of the water with help from the rescue crews in wetsuits.

Fire Department personnel put floaters in the water to clean up any oil or fuel that may have leaked into the lake.

The vehicle was last in the possession of the Alton Police Department, which will investigate the incident further.

Early Ice Fisherman testing the ice?

It's probably the same guy from last year who drove onto the ice early to "test it". Needs to read the thread on ice formation.....

Pineedles 11-20-2008 03:42 PM

Father & Son Talk

Father, "Son, your home early."
Son, "Yeah".
Father, "Have you been drinking?"
Son, "What?"
Father, "Where's the SUV?"
Son, "Where?"

It could be some well respected top honor student that got bored skimming snowmobiles (or maybe because his sunk) and now has tried skimming SUV's....same results

Pricestavern 11-21-2008 01:06 PM

Why?

Why does it always seem to be a Jimmy in the water?

Not sure...the guy from Mass last year was driving a 2008 Explorer.

That's a good question. I'm not sure if I have the answer but here's some reasons why the other SUVs aren't at the bottom ...

The Suburban stays in the city, doesn't venture to the waters edge.
Similarly the Forrester stays in the woods. And the Mountaineers and Highlanders ... goes w/o saying.
The Land Cruiser and Range Rover stay on the land, don't go out onto the lake.
The Navigator knows where to go and where not to.
The Cayenne is hot, it's fast enough to skim across the water.
The Bronco bucks the trend to go out there.
The Bravada, oddly, lacks the courage.
The Escape does get into trouble from time to time but manages to .... well ... get away.
The Amigos also get in trouble but always get pulled out by a friend before public notice ... probably by a Sidekick.
Samuris do sink but all you find are the guts.

To me the real question is how come we don't find more Typhoons or Armadas ?

Typhoons or Armadas

I dunno, probably just a glitch in my Matrix. I'm a little out of my Element. Frankly I had hoped some others would chime in with an Avalanche of SUV puns. It would be a RAV4 all of us.

winnidiver 11-23-2008 06:51 AM

One More

My suv was on the lake, but I am not at Liberty to discuss it.

Argie's Wife 11-23-2008 08:33 AM

Were you just on another Expedition when that happened?

upthesaukee 11-23-2008 08:34 AM

Word around Alton is...

...that the police are looking for the driver, who was described as wearing a Blazer.

Quilt Lady 11-23-2008 05:51 PM

Question . . .

Do they have a Winni(bago) problem in Lake Tahoe?

SteveA 11-23-2008 06:56 PM

Tahoe ? Rumour I heard it was to Santa Fe for a Rendezvous with an Aviator to fly him out of the country. Hopefully a Trooper with catch him before he gets away.

SteveA 11-24-2008 06:51 AM

and not just any Trooper

Rumour I heard it was the Commander of the New Mexico State Police on the lookout for Jimmy.

gtxrider 11-24-2008 07:23 AM

And so on

Trying to Escape the Cherokee he tried to hide behind a Sequoia..

Peachy-Keen 11-24-2008 08:07 AM

It is too bad we don't have more Mariners on the road...Seriosuly though, didn't the article say the Alton PD was last in posession of the vehicle?

chipj29 11-24-2008 08:13 AM

I wanted to be a TrailBlazer, so I ventured off the road...

SIKSUKR 11-24-2008 08:29 AM

Well, my ENVOY likes to stay in the DENALI and out of the lake.

gtxrider 11-24-2008 09:36 AM

And yet

A Samurai would be a Trooper and not try to drown himself but use his sword to commit harri carri! No not the late Cub's announcer.

chipj29 11-24-2008 10:57 AM

The Hummer ran out of gas before it got to the boat ramp.

ITD 11-24-2008 11:49 AM

This all seems a little fishy to me.

Grant 11-24-2008 11:54 AM

Had it been in the Yukon, the lake would probably be frozen by now, so no sinking.

brk-lnt 11-24-2008 12:36 PM

I see all my Amigos here are really into the puns.

mcdude 11-24-2008 01:18 PM

Yes....I CRV IPs (Very Important Posters) are really into this. (groan)

I guess we're running out of SUV models, that pun was XTerra-ble.

chipj29 11-24-2008 01:33 PM

If this was the wild west, we would be circling our Wagoneers.

DRH 11-24-2008 04:34 PM

If Gunstock hadn't been running it's snow guns all week, I'd be able to drive to the top in my Mountaineer!

Happy Gourmand 11-24-2008 05:12 PM

Gmc

I'm certain that a VALIANT effort was made by all to recover it.....

Ropetow 11-24-2008 09:12 PM

I'm sure glad it wasn't a NITRO that sank!

Mee-n-Mac 11-24-2008 11:08 PM

Was it that bad ??? Well OK, I won't Dodge it, it was certainly a low Caliber pun.

alsadad 11-25-2008 09:03 AM

If this Torrent of puns continues beyond the Solstice I shall Endeavor to renew my RX for pain medication X5 and cease to VUE this forum no later than the Equinox. (I could try to come up with more but my wife says it's time to leave for dinner at Outback.)

trfour 11-25-2008 11:27 AM

The driver got out on the beach, and said.... Yugo!

ishoot308 11-25-2008 02:02 PM
