Boats Out?

My boat came out Sunday the 24th. Who else is out and who has plans to push the envelope?

Orion 09-25-2006 10:50 PM

huh?

There's at least 9 more weeks of boating!

Paugus Bay Resident 09-26-2006 06:14 AM

Depending on the lake level and temps, end of October, early November.

Misty Blue 09-26-2006 09:41 AM

Throwing in the towel

Last year I had to break through 1 1/5" of skum ice to get the old Misty to the launching ramp. I guess that I'm just an old codfish.

Probably mid-October. We were out yesterday and it was beautiful. It is incredible to have the lake to ourselves.

Water Camper 09-26-2006 10:51 AM

Push the envelope

I hope to stay in until late November. There are still some beautiful days left. Also, I have the advantage of being in a boat house.

Historically, it is usually a workday, working off site that day :rolleye2:
and it is usually the day before the first snowstorm is predicted.
I guess I have a hard time letting go of the boating season.

I have pictures from I think 2 years ago of my son scraping 3" of snow off the cover with a Santa hat on

Slow Fall foliage cruises with my wife and a bottle of wine are the best!!! :rolleye2:

November 1st !!

codeman671 09-29-2006 10:04 AM

We have to be out of GYC by the end of October so as long as I can find a place in Smith Cove to leave the boat for a few additional weeks we will keep them in until mid-November.

jrc 09-29-2006 01:54 PM

Do you late season boaters ever have trouble with freezing engine blocks?

pmj 09-29-2006 04:24 PM

This the absolute best time of the year to sail..the lake is to ourselves :) Will stay in til late October most likely.

block freeze

The 24 footer comes out soon, and the 21 stays till my marina demands it as it is getting too cold to properly clean the bottom. I am fortunate in that has a closed cooling system with antifreeze so no worries. The last one will be in November, small outboard. The last 2-4 weekends, I leave the camp ready for winter and rough it when we go up. Last year, it was a good thing as I waited too long and the ice was in between the boat and the camp. Pull the outboard out at a neighbor where they are in a channel and does not freeze. I am way up towards Lees Mills and we freeze early but out early also. Last two years, have been back in late March.

Haven't had one yet, and I'm talking going back to the mid-70s.... my parents had a cruiser in Wolfeboro back then, we used to keep it in the water until close to Christmas -- we used to spend T'day cruising the lake with the turkey roasting in the oven, oh what heaven!!!!!! Anyway, getting off topic with that reminiscence. Keep in mind the water is still warm relative to air temps, so maybe the water heats the air or something and keeps the engine from freezing? I definitely wouldn't "push the envelope", however, and take the chance of leaving the boat in the water too late!

Today looks like it would be a great day for a boat ride. If anyone makes it out on the pond today, please let those of us whose boats are high and dry know how it was!

fpartri497 10-04-2006 07:40 AM

:D yesterday was beautifull day on the lake, and Ill be out there all day today also. It doesent get any better than this. Gas Is scarce on the lake now so be prepared.

secondcurve, You are right, it was a beautiful day for our last boat ride. It wasn't planned, but since it was so warm, we couldn't resist a little spin first . It was so calm in the broads and not much boat traffic. Now our boats are all out. A sad time for us.

Paugus Bay Resident 10-04-2006 08:31 PM

Today and yesterday were great. The colors are starting to come in. Went to Meredith yesterday afternoon and there were 2 or 3 boats at the town docks. Only negative is that its getting dark so early :( Oh well, supposed to be a great weekend too.

Haven't seen the dam statistics, but the current around Lakeport has gotten quite a bit stronger over the last week.

Rinkerfam 10-04-2006 11:35 PM

secondcurve,
I took my farewell ride today. It wasn't as sunny as I'd hoped, but the air was warm and the water was calm. All in all it was a great season. Now it's time to gather up the ski gear and wait for the "other" season to begin. I'll be counting the days to the '07 season (my 24th on the big lake).

secondcurve 10-05-2006 05:39 AM

Wow. It sounds like yesterday was as perfect as I pictured, but I think today we are going back to reality! I just heard the weather and temps are expected to be down 20 degrees day over day and quite windy as well! Ouch. At least it looks like the weekend is going to be nice, cool but sunny. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of boats hauled out this weekend. Only the real hardcore boaters will be left next Tuesday.

robmac 10-05-2006 08:00 AM

take out

we still have weeks togo yet provididing the level of the lake isn't dropped too low. weren't temps in the 80 s this week. I'll try and stay untill 11/06,just hate to put the boat up for the winter

Mountain View Yacht Club gas dock is open to the public. 8AM-5PM until Columbus Day. I'm not sure what their hours are after that but they are open late in the season. You could call and ask. 603-293-0059.

Since Silver Sands gas dock was closed most of the season so many boaters discovered that right next door the MVYC gas dock was open to the public. There were also very many that had no clue that Mt. View's gas dock and ship's store was open to the public.

Although it's at MVYC the gas dock and store are run by Irwin Marine.

Airwaves 10-05-2006 06:59 PM

It's a sad day for Airwaves, :( the southern boat was removed from the water today, although she went kicking and screaming and much mud was thrown into the air, onto my SUV and the bow of the boat!

Next week I head to Winni to repeat the process, hopefully without the mud :eek2:

Whereabouts is it scarce, i.e. what part of the lake? What do you base this info on? I'm going to be there Sunday and will need gas..........

Weekday gas?

Lakeport Landing? Places on the Gilford side of the lake, are there any gas docks open during the week?

I am going up during the week (my days off) to pull the boat (another sad day) but if it's a nice day then we may take a ride and burn gas that will need to be replaced!

So...how far do I have to travel during the week from MVYC to get gas?

Phantom 10-06-2006 08:30 AM

Airwaves--

All of the standard Marina's (gas docks) over in the Wiers area should be open during the day (weather permitting) i.e Anchor, Channel Marine,

If your pulling the boat out,I would refill at a gas station if you want to pay much less!

Boat

Tomorrow we pull my fathers boat and will relaunch TAT'S IT. It has been out of the water for about four weeks had a moring cover made, and I've been away. Be good till the 21st and then its out for the season in NH. Might try the CT river before the winter starts though.

secondcurve 10-08-2006 07:11 PM

I stopped by the town docks at Wolfeboro today at 3PM and realized I put my boat away way too early! There were several boats waiting for dockage just like a midsummer day and the line at the ice cream stand was 8-people deep! I have made a mental note to myself for next year.

KBoater 10-09-2006 09:01 AM

Wolfeboro docks

SC, We must have been there at the same time. Did you notice all the empty spaces inside. There were about equal to the circling boats.:rolleye1:

My boat is in the water but mothballed for the winter. I was tempted to take it for 1 last ride but realized my family had worked to get it ready for storage.

Next weekend boating in the warmth of FL

Fay's is still open, usually you have to ring the bell for service this time of year or go chase someone down. At $3.05 per gallon they are certainly no bargain though!

secondcurve 10-09-2006 04:07 PM

FlBoater:

I did note the inside spots. Some of the big cruisers that were tied up on the ends of the docks scared folks away.

It's too bad that you couldn't get out for one more ride. Then again, I'm not going to feel all that bad for you since you will be boating in Florida next week!! Good for you. Have a nice trip down. What month do you come back to NH?

Paugus Bay Resident 10-09-2006 05:34 PM

Today was a 10 on the water :) More please!

KBoater 10-09-2006 05:36 PM

Schedule

My normal schedule is Oct 15 to May 15 in FL but this year I am building a new house in Wolfeboro and moving into it by Xmas. Oct-Nov are the best months in FL if the hurricanes don't get us. I think this year the Babes danced for us because so far so good.;)

pmj 10-09-2006 09:07 PM

Today was absolutely incredible on the water. Perfect temps, perfect winds and the crowds had left by 2:30. I just hope we can squeeze out a few more!

You said it! In the four seasons that I've owned my sailboat, I never made it down to the broads. Yesterday, Columbus Day, was the day. It took me an hour to motor down to the Barber Pole, but then I spent five hours sailing up and down and across the big part of the lake. Thirty two miles for about a gallon of gas! The winds were 9-12 and the temperature eventually got into the 70's. Hardly any boat traffic to worry about. I was going to pull the boat last weekend, but am glad I didn't.

Dave R 10-10-2006 09:21 AM

Wow, yesterday was our last day on the water, but what a day! Soooo glad we went out. Was rather shocked at how little dock space there was in Meredith at lunch time. Had to squeeze into a tight spot between two boats, only to discover many closed restaurants... Was hoping for a nice, "sit down" meal but ended up having pizza since we were hungry and did not want to look too hard for a place to eat.

Boat's all Winterized now. Had a great season without a single mishap or mechanical problem. Came close to a mishap yesterday, though. Almost missed going around the south side of the southern most red-topped spar northwest of Dow Island, as I was coming from the north side of Dow, by Perch Island. Saw the spar at the last second and made a quick turn to get around the proper side of it. Phew, kind rocky on the worng side of it...

Weirs guy 10-10-2006 12:26 PM

Boy Lakegeezer, you did have it made. We we're hiking Locke's hill yesterday afternoon and when we stopped at the glades I was surprised to see more sail boats than power boats!

Mee-n-Mac 10-10-2006 03:07 PM

Foliage cruise

Monday was like a summer day out cruising about. More boats than I expected for this time of year. We did some leaf peeping and are hoping to get another tour in before weeks ends. Still a bit before peak color I think. Not sure when the boat comes out, perhaps this weekend but more likely in the next 2. Gotta love the weather so far this week !

John A. Birdsall 10-10-2006 03:41 PM

Boat In Water

I could not believe the good weather this weekend. TATS IT went back in Sat and what a joy. And their was a lot of boats on the lake this weekend and it appeared that everyone behaved themselves. Two more weekends, do you suppose I'd be pushing it asking for repeat of the weather?:emb:
