We will be up there the first week of September, J and I, and would love to hook up with you. He wants to rent a pontoon for the week and I am in agreement that this would be the best way to access the weedy areas that produce. I was real disspointed to hear about Conway's closing. It's nice when your son appreciates fin and fur as a pasttime. |
Consider it done.. Shoot me a IM when your up for the week.

Mitt must have been spending the holiday weekend up at the lake, because he was in Laconia's 4th of July parade yesterday! I figure it was the closest one to his place so he could do a little campaigning and get back to enjoying the lake.

Where does Romney claim his residency today/now?

That is an awesome Idea..... Wouldn't that be something, having to hold the Mount out in the Broads while he did his arrival and departures? LOL!:D |
Well...
he lives in his sons unfinished basement... according to voter registration in Belmont Mass. :rolleye1:
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/if-mitt-r...t-voter-fraud/ The video from MSNBC is near the bottom of the page... pretty funny. |
I was living in Wells, ME when the Papa Bush was president, and lemme tell you... nothing could screw up summertime traffic like Team Pres coming into town... and that was before 9-11 - security wasn't as tight back then as it is today!
And isn't there an airport in Wolfeboro or Tuftonboro? |
Just to keep the lake unfettered
I will offer up my own personal govenor Christie for a substitute. He's a little rough around the edges, but seems to be getting the job done. Oh..and he's fat. Hope that's not a problem.

There used to be an airport in Wolfeboro on Wolfeboro Neck but someone decided it would be better suited as a Condo Park. Trouble is, nobody was buying or building. I think the Marriot's own the land now. There's no airport in Tuftonboro. Nearest airport on the Wolfeboro side of the lake is on Rt 25 in Moultonboro. :D NB |
The Marriott's do own whatwas once the airport. It was subdivided into building lots with septic systems and underground utilities in place before the bottom dropped out of the housing market. The Marriott's bought the whole shebang. They have close ties to the Romney's and it would be an easy place to land a helicopter. However, I recently talked to someone who worked in the White House under Bush and asked about how he would get into town if he were President. The answer I was given was that he would fly into Pease on Air Force One and then by helicopter right up to the neighborhood which could be the hospital, golf course, Clark Park. There would not be a lot of traffic tie ups, but the people who live down Clark Rd. In the area where he lives will have tough screening to go through every time they go in or out whenever he would be in residence.
|
Let's assume he will land in Pease and drive the motorcade in normal situations. According to the map thing it's 47 minutes. It's 42 minutes to Laconia, but that means a smaller plane or a transfer of planes.
In emergency situation they can land Marine One on the golf course or in the lake! The usual helicopter is amphibious. http://www.aviationspectator.com/fil...63.preview.jpg |
The runway of the old Wolfeboro Airport is now a road, but it really would make a better runway than what used to be there.
|
When Obama visited Acadia National Park in Maine, he arrived in a Gulfstream III. Clinton also flew on a Gulfstream III
Who knows what they'll use but given the short flight from Andrews AFB to New England it makes more sense to fly the smaller planes. Again, I will be surprised if they don't use Sanford. They already have the logistics worked out and can heli from there. I was in Claremont in 94/95 when Clinton visited. I have seen a fair share of motorcades;) |
No Airports in Tuftonboro...?

'Course, that was in the 1930s, when any green field was "an airport". :emb: —including the 10th green at the "Bald Peak Golf Course" :eek2: where many golfer-pilots would land to play golf! :) |

Apparently, even people in LA find Mitt's Wolfeboro residency an interesting topic.

They got the Lawn Chair Drill Team wrong too. There are six women in the group, not counting the banner carriers and drummer who are also women. I'm one of the Lawn Chair Ladies!!!!!

About four months from now, probably on the first Tuesday in January, is the NH presidencial primary election. I definitely expect to bump into Mitt, Rick, & Barack over the next couple months, down at the new Meredith-Family Dollar, all waiting in line at the check-out to pay for their $3.50 frozen pizzas! "Well, just look who's here........helloooooo Mr Mitt!" .....very smart to be stopping in here....this new store is located smack dab in the middle of Meredith's year round, full time, local neighborhood people, and except for the last 2008 election, Meredith almost always favors the Republican candidate in November. |
Navy 1
I know there is an Air force 1, and Marine 1, Motorcade 1, (army) but is there a Navy 1? What kind of boat does the president get? If I was president that would be my first question, where is my new boat!
|
|
I know how he feels. Coming back home to New Hampshire can be a great sense of comfort and decompression. I think that if we get Mitt as a president, this kind of tips his hand that New Hampshire might be a likely place to recharge the batteries and get some quality think time.
|
Mitt who? Newt is the next President and he doesn't have a place up here.
|
In deed you are correct RGuy..... I while I see it as a great thing for a president of have a place to get away too, I am not sure I want to see it in the lakes region. It might lead to restrictions that none of use are fond of....
It also tends to lead to a real estate boom, which may drive some of us off the lake..... Not that this would keep me from voting for Romney If I feel he is the right the person for the job..... |

He needs to seriously up his game as he is in danger of losing the nomination once again.

I think he is trying to hard to "play the game" and not keeping it focused on his own message.

I will consider Romney, but first he has to make it through the primary season. |
Just a friendly reminder... these forums are for the lake. While it's appropriate to discuss Romney in light of his residence here, lets be careful this thread doesn't branch into a political/candidate discussion.

Kennebunk and the Kennebunkport still attact people today due to the Bush family living there- it might be a boom for local business and or a curse to quiet smalltown life. |
No matter what happens to Mitt in the presidential race you can't fault the guy if he wants to take a vacation and decides to head to the lake just like everyone else on this forum does. If he does win and comes to the lake I don't begrudge him for doing so, it will without a doubt screw the area up while he's in town. Remember too that will extend beyond whatever time he may be in the White House (if he gets that far).
As a side note, get educated on the candidates running for President and vote. It's not only a privilege but an obligation as a citizen. Many have died or sacrificed a great deal so you have the ability to do so! :) |
Wouldn't it be cool if he wins and goes to the forum fest? :D
