Fabulous! Detail is incredible...did you use a flash?
I've been shooting the butterflies in our garden, but I'm not getting the level of detail you have. ( Canon T3 - Canon 70-300 f4-5.6 IS )

Thanks all for the compliments. Steve both of those images were shot with a Canon 40D and Canon 70-200 f/4.0L IS lens. I used spot metering on both shots and both shots were done with natural light; no flash. When it comes to most forms of nature photography; whether it's birds, butterfly's or even just a flower, there really is no substitute for getting very close to your subject. With these shots I walked right up to them and they immediately flew away. So, I just stood there (close to the flowers that were attracting them) and waited a few minutes for them to return and when they did I got to shoot them up close.

I took a few pictures of them as well a few days ago....Didn;t want to lose my Man card for posting butterfly pics though. But seeing as Airdale1 did.....
Not as good as his, but he is right...hard to catch them sitting still or them staying in focus. On my impations that I have planted around my septic stink pipe....

You take awesome pictures. Can you do me a favor and go camp in the woods and don't come out till you have some definitive beautiful pictures of a New Hampshire Bigfoot?
But seriously nice pics!

I actually hate your pictures. They keep reminding me of how inadequate I am as a photographer, despite a desire to be one!
![]() Just kidding. Please continue to post. Your pictures provide a higher level to shoot for! |
