Alton Bay Runway 2022

It was good to see the runway open yesterday afternoon. Got to swing by on the way home and there were already about 15-20 plans and a helicopter on the ice. Not too bad for a later start in the afternoon I thought.
I'm not a pilot, but know a couple. Noticed they were landing with the wind yesterday. Just curious if anyone knew why they weren't landing at the Sandy point end and taking off from that end? Did the wind shift when I got there? The flag on the Gazebo was flying straight along the runway when I was there, that was about 3:30ish give or take.
I was just curious.

From the information for B18, the Alton seaplane and ice runway;

TKOF & LDG USING RWY 19W PROHIBITED JAN - MAR.

Thanks for the info. I guess it doesn't make sense to me, but sure.
Is this a newer rule? I seems to remember when I was younger they used to take of both ways, but I could be mistaken. Although a few years back there was one plane that landed Sandy point end but was new and with the wind and crashed at that end. If I remember it was a newer pilot.
Either way, my son was thrilled to see it again, we missed it last year.

Departing to the south may not be so bad, but they had problems with aircraft landing too the south, actually with tailwinds, where the aircraft ran out of runway after landing long.

It was felt that landing and departing on runway 01 made sense, especially with the taxiing situations in the past whereas they did not always have the taxiway.

Given the size of the aircraft that land at B18, I don't think a small tailwind would create too much of a problem. Smart people than me make decisions like that.

Yep, it was on the back of the commercial building to the south of the docks, and looked down on the docks and behind. Long gone now.
